A licensed associate real estate broker, New York resident Gustavo L. Vila is the founder of a property management company that bears his name. For two decades, Gustavo L. Vila served and protected the public as a police officer of the City of New York Police Department (NYPD), rising from the ranks as a patrolman to counsel to the police commissioner before his retirement in 2002.

As part of its effort to help the youth and foster a better sense of community, the NYPD offers a number of youth-oriented programs. One of these initiatives is the Summer Youth Police Academy. During the summer, youths aged from 10 to 16 can attend the Youth Police Academy from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., five days a week for six weeks in the borough in which they reside.

Classes are conducted by police officers and feature lectures, demonstrations, and role-plays, covering topics that include drug prevention, law, and gang resistance. Students undergo military drills similar to those in the Police Academy, visit police facilities, and are provided lunch and shirt uniforms. Aside from highlighting responsible citizenship, the program also encourages the young people to join other youth programs such as the Police Cadet Corps and the Law Enforcement Explorers.
